Alectra’s Drive @Work program installs 10 new EV chargers in Mississauga

Mississauga, ON – In collaboration with the City of Mississauga, Alectra announced its installation of ten level-2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the underground parking lot of the Mississauga Central Library located at 301 Burnhamthorpe Rd W.

Level-2 chargers provide more rapid charging service to EV batteries and are a practical option for public charging applications. Alectra’s multi-year pilot program, AlectraDrive @Work, is designed to understand how managed smart charging can reduce customer bills and the need to invest in upgrading infrastructure. In the first phase of the project, chargers were installed at the Markham Civic Centre and at Alectra’s Head Office in Mississauga.

Guelph, ON – Alectra Inc. released the Alectra Green Energy and Technology Centre (GRE&T Centre) 2021 Annual Report entitled, “Where great minds collaborate to power a better tomorrow.”

The Alectra GRE&T Centre was established in 2019. It is the company’s innovation facility dedicated to identifying, evaluating, developing, and accelerating new, clean, and customer-friendly energy solutions. These include e-mobility (EV) adoption projects and distributed energy resource (DER) demand response activation pilots.

New EV Chargers Coming to Ontario

St. Catharines, ON – Today, Chris Bittle, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Member of Parliament for St. Catharines, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced a $250,000 investment in Alectra Energy Services to install 50 Level 2 EV chargers across St. Catharines, Barrie and Markham.

Funded through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, all chargers will be available to Ontarians this spring. Alectra Energy Services also contributed more than $710,000, bringing the total project cost to more than $960,000.

IESO-York Region Non-Wires Alternatives demo project enters Year 2

With support from Natural Resources Canada, Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator has undertaken a demonstration project in York Region to explore market-based approaches to secure energy and capacity services from distributed energy resources (DERs) for local needs, while co-ordinating across the electricity system.

A key objective of the IESO-York Region Non-Wires Alternatives (NWA) demonstration project is to better understand the potential of using DERs in place of traditional poles-and-wires infrastructure by having them operate in real-world applications. The project is funded through IESO’s Grid Innovation Fund and Natural Resources Canada, and is being delivered by Alectra Utilities, the local distribution company.

Ontario Investigating Options for New Ultra-Low Overnight Electricity Rate

New electricity price plan could reduce electricity bills, benefit shift workers and support electric vehicle adoption Mississauga, ON – Ontario’s Energy Minister Todd Smith has asked the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to provide him with options to implement a new ultra-low overnight Time-of-Use electricity price plan as the province continues to provide Ontario families with more ways to save money and take more control of their energy bills. The new ultra-low overnight rate could help shift workers and residential consumers that use more electricity at night save money while supporting electric vehicle (EV) adoption, by reducing overnight EV charging costs when province-wide electricity demand is lower.
