Alectra’s GRE&T Centre has made excellent progress since its inception. Industry recognition in terms of awards and positive feedback is an endorsement of the relevance and importance of our work in the context of green energy solutions.

2023 Centre of Excellence Award (Distribution)

IESO York Region Non-Wires Alternatives demonstration project delivered by Alectra, in partnership with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), received Electricity Canada's Centre of Excellence award in the Distribution Category for 2023. 

Centre of Excellence awards showcase the best of Canadian electricity ingenuity, inspiration and aspiration. The NWA project tested the potential of distributed energy resources (DERs) to serve the region’s electricity needs and helped develop a better understanding of how to competitively procure and operate DERs.

2021 OEA Innovation Award

At its annual Energy Awards ceremony, the Ontario Energy Association (OEA) honoured Alectra with the prestigious ‘2021 OEA Innovation Award’.

The annual Energy Awards recognize OEA members for their achievements in the Ontario energy sector. This year, Alectra received the Innovation Award, and was recognized for its breakthrough ideas, new technology, and creative adaptation of existing technology.

AESP Energy Award 2020

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) York Region Non-Wires Alternatives Demonstration Project, which is being delivered by Alectra in partnership with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), received the 2020 Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) Award in the 'Beyond Energy Efficiency' category last week.

The AESP Energy Awards recognize the power of collaboration among local communities, utilities, and solution providers to meet our energy needs of the future. Alectra is proud to be at the forefront of energy efficiency and innovation.

The project is Canada’s first local electricity market. Through this project, we’ve procured a variety of distributed energy resources (DERs) as alternative supply options to help meet accelerating electricity demand in the region and to defer the need for traditional wires infrastructure.

Tom Mitchell Electric Vehicle (EV) Utility Leadership Award 2020

Plug’n Drive and the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) have awarded Alectra Utilities with the ‘Tom Mitchell Electric Vehicle Utility Leadership Award’ for its programs: AlectraDrive @WorkAlectraDrive @HomeGridExchangeAdvantage Power Pricing and York University Electric Bus Simulation Study. All of these initiatives operate out of Alectra’s Green Energy & Technology Centre (GRE&T Centre).

This award recognises a Canadian electrical utility that has shown leadership in implementation of utility-led electric vehicle or charging station programs. The award is named after Tom Mitchell, the former CEO of Ontario Power Generation who was instrumental in supporting the cause of adoption of EV before most people had even heard of them.

SEPA Public Power Utility of the Year Award 2020

The Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) named Alectra Utilities the Public Power Utility of the Year as part of its 2020 Power Players Awards. Alectra is the first Canadian Utility to win this prestigious award. Alectra is being recognized for the achievements of its innovation hub, the Green Energy & Technology Centre(GRE&T Centre).

The GRE&T Centre makes energy innovation come to life by identifying, developing and accelerating emerging, clean, and customer-friendly energy solutions. This award highlights the following GRE&T Centre programs: AlectraDrive, GridExchange, POWER.HOUSETM, and Power.House Hybrid as notable initiatives.

SEPA Public Power Utility of the Year Award 2020

PEO 2019 York Chapter Engineering Project of the Year Award: Large Size Company Category

AlectraDrive @Work: The implementation of AlectraDrive @Work, at Markham Civic Centre won the award for the Engineering Project of the Year Award in the large size company category.

This award will help build new, or deepen existing, relationships with high-tech companies and related businesses in the region!

Smart Cities – Smart 50 Award for Community Engagement

Advantage Power Pricing: The Smart 50 Award recognized Alectra’s Advantage Power Pricing pilot program as one of the most transformative and influential smart cities projects. Supported by the Ontario Energy Board, learnings from the pilot will inform decisions on future electricity pricing plans.

Two GRE&T Centre projects have been recognized by the Canadian Electricity Association Centre of Excellence which celebrates Canadian innovation and cutting-edge technology in the electricity sector.

Advantage Power Pricing: This pilot project offered customers the chance to voluntarily sign up for electricity pricing alternatives to reduce their electricity costs.
