Alectra remains committed to prioritizing Canadian businesses, suppliers, and vendors in procuring equipment and services for our electricity grid.
As Canada’s largest municipally owned electricity utility by customer base, Alectra Utilities serves approximately 1.1 million homes and businesses, representing a population of about three million people. As a major Ontario employer and electricity distribution company, we are also committed to investing in Canada’s economy, especially Ontario’s businesses and workers.
Since 2020, Alectra has invested approximately $1.7 billion in net distribution capital, with most of that spending directed to Canadian sources. In 2025 alone, we invested more than $335.8 million in net distribution capital, including labour and materials, with 88.8 per cent of these funds directed to Canadian suppliers and workers.
By sourcing Canadian whenever possible, Alectra Utilities has been helping build a resilient supply chain while continuing to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to our customers.
At a time of rising energy demand, Alectra is doing its part to support domestic investment in the electricity sector. With our capital spending expected to nearly double by 2031, these investments will support essential grid renewal, replacement of aging equipment, and grid expansion to meet growing electricity demand caused by organic growth.
We appreciate the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Carney, Premier Doug Ford, Minister Stephen Lecce, and municipalities across our service areas as they stand up for Canadians at this critical time.
Looking ahead, Alectra is reinforcing its commitment to investing in the foundations of long-term prosperity: infrastructure, people, businesses and communities. By continuing to support Ontario’s future, we’re helping strengthen competitiveness across Ontario and Canada.
